Funding and Fellowships

The deadline for the 2008 FLAS and Fee Remission applications is February 29. All mailed application materials must be postmarked by February 29th.

SASLI offers two funding options:

1. February 29: Deadline Passeds received in the SASLI office (graduate students only)

2.
February 29 : Deadline Passed received in the SASLI office.

SASLI DOES NOT accept Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) grants.

Summer SASLI FLAS Fellowship

SASLI FLAS. (Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships) are provided by the U.S. Department of Education. A FLAS fellowship for SASLI covers the program fee as well as a fixed stipend. Fellowships are awarded based on a national competition open to graduate students who are or will be registered at any institution in the United States for Fall 2008, and who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States. SASLI FLAS fellowships are only available for study in SASLI.

Home Institution FLAS.
Please note that if you are a student from an institution that has a National Resource Center for South Asia, you may apply for both a SASLI FLAS and a FLAS at your home institution. For information regarding their home institution FLAS, students should contact their local advisors.

The constituent member institutions are: Southern Asian Institute (Columbia University), South Asia Program (Cornell University), South Asia Center (Syracuse University Consortium), Center for Asia Studies (U.C. Berkeley), South Asia and Area Center (University of Chicago), North Carolina Center for South Asia Studies, South Asia Regional Studies (University of Pennsylvania), Center for Asian Studies (University of Texas-Austin), Center for South Asian Studies (University of Washington-Seattle), Center for South Asia (University of Wisconsin-Madison).

Please note that SASLI FLAS Fellowships cannot be used for the study of Sanskrit.


SASLI fee remission

Eligibility. All SASLI students are eligible to apply for the SASLI Fee Remission (scholarship). The fee remission will cover part or all of the program fee, but will not include a stipend. The review process is competitive and based on financial need and academic/other reasons language study is necessary.
